On Friday May 20, 2022, from 6pm to 10pm, and Saturday May 21, 11am to 3pm, the artists of The Cornelia Art Building, located at 1800 West Cornelia Avenue in Chicago, invite the public to their May open house! Visit one of the largest all-artist buildings on Chicago’s North side, and experience two-full floors of working art studios.

The building has undergone extensive remodeling upgrades, and has welcomed many new artists into the building. With one-of-a-kind artwork and special artisan-made gifts, the event offers something for the whole family to enjoy.

Join Jason Messinger in his newly remodeled first floor studio #109, where he will showcase his signature tile murals, ceramic sculptures, paintings and drawings on paper, and small gift items. For thirty-six years this artist incubator space has provided Chicago artists with professional studio spaces to pursue their passion.

Over sixty local artists and artisans work here, including painters, sculptors, photographers, ceramic artists, print-makers, jewelry designers, textile artisans, and much more. Visitors to the May Open Studio can meet many of the building’s talented artists and artisans in person, explore their art practices up close in their working art studios, and enjoy the opportunity to purchase artwork and hand-made crafts directly from the people who made them.

The juried guest artist in the remodeled lobby is John Thompson, who is exhibiting landscape and still life oil paintings on canvas. The Cornelia Arts Building will also be presenting art from the Stolen Sky exhibition, originally held in Chicago in April. Stolen Sky is an art exhibit and print sale of the latest artworks by modern Ukrainian artists. Most creators displayed in the exhibit are currently living and creating in Ukraine, and all displayed artworks have been created since the war began. All raised funds go to the National Humanitarian Aid Funds Of Ukraine.

Established in 1986 in a former ice-house, the Cornelia Arts Building is located at 1800 West Cornelia, at the border of three distinct Chicago Neighborhoods; Lakeview, Roscoe Village, and North Center.
